Why The Travel Theme?
So you noticed our travel theme! If you haven’t yet, take a look at the titles of all our sections, the traveling girl on the home page, and the name itself, “Compass Movement Inc.” The travel theme signifies how our troubles are temporary obstacles in our long, beautiful journeys through life. The road isn’t always easy, but it’s always worth it, and the journey is far more important than the destination. It defies our perfect understanding of what life should look like, and instead embraces the reality of it. The story behind the name “Compass Movement Inc” also has to do with travel, and can be found on the Homepage of the website.
Lots of mental health nonprofits exist. What’s so special about Compass Movement Inc.?
First, Compass Movement Inc. is run by teens for teens under a professional advisor. That puts us on equal footing with those we’re targeting in our community. Second, Compass Movement Inc. specializes in breaking stigmas, creating connections, and forming a more global community, rather than suicide prevention itself. What that means is that we don't’ offer a hotline, direct counseling, or suicide prevention training, since we understand other nonprofits are far more capable of these things. Instead, we seek to be an online and in-person center for teenagers who may be struggling with any issue, internal or external, to connect with others’ stories, gain hope and perspective, and take part in the supportive, loving community we’re trying to build.
I love what Compass Movement Inc. is doing! How can I support the cause?
Awesome! So glad you’re supporting our mission and joining our community! There are several things you can do to support. The first is, if possible, attending our events. We host monthly group discussions at the Alpharetta library and will be planning a big video/fundraiser soon for our local crisis hotline. The second is to follow us on Instagram: @thecompassmovement. The third is to write for us!
I want to write for Compass Movement Inc.! What should I do?
If you have a story to share about things in your life you’ve overcome, or want to interview others who have gone through difficult situations, or want to write an article about literally anything related to our mission and vision, feel free! We’re super flexible with what we choose to post. All we ask is that you keep any political, religious, or other conflicting opinions out. Email email@example.com for submissions!
Who can I reach out to if I need someone to talk to?
If you have any questions you’d like answered by our advisor and licensed therapist in 1-2 weeks, please send them to firstname.lastname@example.org. If you need to talk to someone beyond just sending a question, we suggest a parent or guardian, another licensed professional in your community, or close-trusted friends. If you are in crisis, or thinking about harming yourself, or just need emotional support, call 1-800-273-8255, or online chat at https://suicidepreventionlifeline.org/chat/. Please keep in mind that these calls aren’t traced back to you, or used against you in any way. These resources aren’t only for those in crisis, the website says that “Lifeline Chat is a service of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, connecting individuals with counselors for emotional support and other services via web chat.”
